Patriotic Reading

What books do men in prison enjoy reading the most? The historical ones.

In 2018, conducted classes popularising good historical literature in two Warsaw prisons, the Grochów and Białołęka detention centres. They were part of a series according to an original programme by Marcin Prokop, a young history enthusiast and student of International Relations at UKSW in Warsaw.

We realised five meetings in both prisons. The books we presented and encouraged people to read were chosen so as not to bore the beginner reader. The presented literature was diverse and did not repeat one theme. There were history books, novels, and political texts, representing the full range of possible styles of writing. Each participant found a topic of interest, presented in a clear and simple way. As our Foundation has donated the items in question to the prison libraries, the participants can read them individually in their cells.

The project „Patriotic Reading in Prisons” was co-financed from funds of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Fund for the Promotion of Culture.
