eWKratke.pl – is a project unique in the world: a blog with posts written by people serving prison sentences.
Originally, the blog was run by women serving sentences in a prison in Warsaw’s Grochów district. Over the years, it was joined by men from other prisons in Poland: Warsaw Białołęka Detention Centre, Wołów Penal Facility, Strzelce Opolskie Penal Facility.
EWKratke.pl has been run by the Dom Kultury Foundation since 2014, with the strength of volunteers and thanks to grants from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. At its core are the cultural education workshops that the Foundation regularly conducts in selected prisons.
The inmates taking part in the blogging workshops do not have access to the internet. Everything takes place in an analogue way: inmates write texts in their cells or during workshops, the texts are transcribed by volunteers from freedom and uploaded to the Internet. The workshop facilitators bring the bloggers printouts of their published blog texts and comments from readers. The inmates write back on sheets of paper to people from freedom. The replies are transcribed and published on the Web. And so it goes on.
EWKratke. pl is created thanks to the tireless work of volunteers: Sara Duszczyk, Ula Bogucka, Magda Wychowska and Krzysztof Szczeciński. Many thanks to them for their contribution and support.
The author of the graphic design of the eWKratke.pl blog is Małgorzata Brus. Justyna Domasłowska – Szulc is responsible for the content, and Ada Szulc is responsible for promoting the blog through social media.
