Paramisia, or the fairytale „Jana and the Blacksmith” – a film animation (not only for children) will be realised by artists Małgorzata Jabłońska and Piotr Szewczyk, based on the fairytale written by the ingenious Roma artist, singer and poet Teresa Mirga.
The characters and elements of the scenography design for the animation will be created by Roma children from Wrocław, who, under the care of the intercultural integration assistant from the Nomada Association – Roksana Stojowska, will take part in animation workshops.
The results will be available online in autumn 2023. The fairytale will be available in three languages: Polish, English and Romani.

Paramisia „Jana and the blacksmith”
In a certain small village
lived two women, both beautiful
– mother and daughter – left abandoned.
The widow buried her husband –
many years ago.
And thus alone in this world
struggles in poverty with her daughter Jana.
Both love each other and stick together.
Her daughter is obedient – as good as an angel!
Ah, there is a big ruckus in the village – the Roma,
Roma people with a caravan!
They’re preparing a camp on a clearing by the forest.
– Let me out of the house, Mother,
for the Roma are playing in the village!
And the pretty maiden ran off to listen to Romani music.
And the music was so sweet that her heart
at once overflows with joy and tenderness.
Jana stood and listened, stood and admired,
until at last her cheeks blushed
under the hot gaze of the fiddler
of the charming Roma man.
She felt his gaze on her, which burned like fire.
Their eyes met and bewitched each other.
It’s time to go home.
Let go of my hand, my mother awaits anxiously
what can I do?
Enchanted by Romani eyes
could not fall asleep,
still thinking of the fiddler.
How beautiful he is, raven hair and such heat in his eyes.
They met in secret and more and more
the flame of love flickered in their hearts.
Jana revealed to her mother her deepest secret
about the forbidden love,
which she could not renounce.
Even if the whole world was against it,
there’s nothing in the world that would give her heart to another.
There is a stir in the camp as we must move on.
The horses are being prepared and fires put out.
But our young man in love
will not go further, he will stay in the village,
he’ll build a forge, become a blacksmith.
The mother of the two in love
gives her blessing and for the son-in-law prepares a place
in her home and opens her heart.
May he be accepted in the village as a brother,
his musicianship and blacksmithing appreciated.
My dear friends, this is how it turned out.
Jana and her beloved moved in together.
Wonders were created by his hand in the forge next door.
All kinds of tools for the farmers in the fields,
chain, horseshoes, axes.
His skill had been appreciated in the village.
and in the evenings, in the moonlight
the bonfire was lit.
Jana baked potatoes in the fire,
and her beloved played the fiddle
romantic notes – for his Jana.
The stars in the sky were watching them
and danced merrily in the sky.
