Observing and Drawing
„Observing and Drawing” is a cultural education project for girls and boys from two Youth Education Centres in Warsaw.
The programme included workshops in the areas of photography, calligraphy, graphic storytelling and artbook creation. As a result of the activities, the participants acquired new skills that will be useful in their daily lives: for work and for play.
Below you can see the beautiful artbooks that were created during some of the workshops. The artistic supervisor and (co-)author of the artworks is the artist Beata Sosnowska.
The classes were led by Beata Sosnowska, Małgorzata Brus, Katarzyna Urbanek, Ewa Frączek-Biłat and Zosia Szulc.

Kłodzka Roma 2021 – plener
Plenery organizowane przez Fundację Dom Kultury odwołują się do powojennej tradycji plenerów grupowych a jednocześnie przełamują jedną z ich niekorzystnych cech. Czerpią mianowicie z tradycji grupo-twórczych: tworząca prace warsztatowe grupa jednocześnie buduje (tworzy) wewnętrzne więzi; przełamując przy tym elitaryzm. W warsztatach biorą bowiem udział lokalni mieszkańcy, przyjezdni goście Festiwalu Kultury Romskiej „Kłodzka Roma” i specjaliści innych dziedzin prowadzący zajęcia w ramach festiwalu.
Obiektem malowanym przez uczestników było drzewo ulokowane w centrum terenu Art-Dworku. Obiekt goszczący w swoich podwojach Festiwal Kultury Romskiej „Kłodzka Roma 2021” położony jest w malowniczym zakątku, zwanym Brzozowie – dzielnicy Kudowy-Zdroju i na pograniczu z Czechami (Nachod). Nietrudno wśród wzgórz, odległych lasów i budowli znaleźć atrakcyjny pejzaż do namalowania. Jednak uwagę „plenerowiczów” przykuło rozłożyste drzewo. Symbolika drzewa jest wieloznaczna. Dla wielu ludów święte drzewo symbolizowało centrum świata, oś wokół której skupia się ziemia, pomost łączący trzy strefy życia człowieka: siły podziemne, strefę kosmiczną i życie na ziemi.
To drzewa są największymi producentami tlenu w atmosferze. Są też pokarmem wielu zwierząt, jednocześnie dając im schronienie. Ich korzenie zapobiegają erozji gleby, a materiał z którego się składają lub ich owoce, towarzyszą człowiekowi od zarania jego dziejów. Peter Wohlleben w „Sekretnym życiu drzew” opisał także ciekawostki z życia naszych nie-ludzkich sąsiadów: drzewa porozumiewają się ze sobą, z oddaniem troszczą się o swe potomstwo oraz pielęgnują starych i chorych sąsiadów a także doświadczają wrażeń – mają uczucia i pamięć.
Wiele z tych znaczeń wyczytać możemy z powstałych podczas pleneru prac.
Plener – warsztaty malarskie prowadził artysta Krzysztof Gil. Krzysztof Gil (ur. 1987 r.) studiował grafikę na Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Krakowie, gdzie uzyskał tytuł magistra pod opieką profesora Piotra Panasiewicza oraz zrobił aneks w pracowni rysunku dr hab. Joanny Kaiser. W 2018 uzyskał tytuł doktora w macierzystej uczelni na podstawie instalacji i dysertacji „TAJSA – wczoraj i jutro”. Wykłada w Instytucie Malarstwa i Edukacji Artystycznej Uniwersytetu Pedagogicznego w Krakowie. Zajmuje się rysunkiem, malarstwem, instalacją, grafiką warsztatową, tworzy obiekty. Swoje prace prezentował w instytucjach i galeriach takich jak: European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture – ERIAC (Berlin); MWW (Wrocław); BWA Tarnów; Galeria Szara Kamienica (Kraków); BWA Wrocław; L’etrangere Gallery (Londyn); GGM (Gdańsk).

Łaćhes, a Roma culinary artbook
Łaćhes, a Roma culinary artbook, documents and archives the culinary cultural heritage of the Polish Roma, in which the history and experiences of this ethnic group are recorded.
Łaćhes a Roma culinary artbook
The artbook contains interesting Roma recipes, photographs by Delfin Łakatosz, and unique illustrations by Noemi Łakatosz.
The graphic design was created by an artist Iwo Rutkiewicz, and the manager and content supervisor of the project was Perła Krystyna Markowska, the Director of the Association of Counselling and Information Centre for the Roma in Poland and leader of the „Perła i Bracia” band.
The recipes were provided by well-known people of Roma origin, activists, artists, writers, as well as some broadly unknown chiefs – famous in their communities for their culinary artistry.
Artbook release took place on the 1st of December 2021.

Paramisia/Fairytale
Paramisia „The Creation of the World” is an animated film for children based on Jerzy Ficowski’s work from the collection „A Twig from the Sun Tree”. What makes it different from other fairytale videos? The fact that animations were made by Roma children themselves.
Six children from Radom took part in our animation workshops led by artist and director Agnieszka Sadurska. The children first learned what animation is, how it’s created and what useful animation apps they can use on their smartphones. Suitably prepared, they read the fairytale „The Creation of the World”, and then designed the scenery and the characters and made simple animations that are included in the film. The dialogues were recorded both in Romani and Polish.
The artistic supervisors of the project were Agnieszka Caban and Andrzej Grzymała-Kazłowski.
Many thanks to Karolina Kwiatkowska for the organisation, to Primary School No. 23 in Radom for providing the rooms and media, and above all to Anastasia, Adam, Jonasz -Goran, Alan, Adrian, Milan and Laura – our young creators – for their active participation, creativity and great work!
The Romani language, passed on and developed only in oral form, is at the same time the foundation of culture and a wall of defence against the influence of the outside world. One of the primary and basic forms of education and socialisation of Romani children is paramisia – a fairytale, a parable with a moral, referring to the mythological and magical world, often humorous in content, always carrying a message indicating the importance (often superiority) of Romani values – bravery, courage, cleverness, solidarity, loyalty to loved ones. – Andrzej Grzymała-Kazłowski.
The project was funded by the Ministry of Interior and Administration within the framework of the „Programme for the Integration of the Roma Community in Poland 2014 – 2020”, in cooperation with the Jerzy Ficowski Foundation, the Agimagine company, the Museum of Roma Culture in Warsaw, the Central Roma Council in Poland and the Roma Advice and Information Centre in Poland.

Roma Culture Festival „Kłodzka Roma 2021”.
On 24th July 2021, the first edition of the Roma Culture Festival „Kłodzka Roma” took place.
It was a real treat for all lovers of Roma culture, both traditional and contemporary, represented by Roma artists from the Kłodzko district and all over Poland.
The event was a great opportunity to deeply enter into the Roma culture, to learn about its history and its creators and to genuinely meet people interested in the culture of this ethnic minority.
More than 100 guests took part in painting, cooking and music workshops, performances, a concert and a bonfire feast. Classes were conducted by, among others, artists Perła Krystyna and Michał Markowski, Krzysztof Gil, Róża Łakatosz and the associates of Fundacja Dom Kultury.
The first edition of Kłodzka Roma took place in the charming Art Manor in Brzozów, a district of Kudowa-Zdrój.

The festival was held under the patronage of the Mayor of Kudowa-Zdrój, the Kudowa Centre for Culture and Sports and the Kłodzko Newspaper.

Our Diversity Mural
„Our Diversity Mural” was created on 18th September 2021 at the Multicultural Centre on 54 Jagiellońska St. The main focus of this project was a workshop on how to design and paint a mural. The artwork is a statement about the diversity of contemporary Varsovians. The activities consisted of several stages. Artist Beata Sosnowska, together with the participants, designed a mural which was then painted on the wall of the Multicultural Centre in Warsaw. The mural-painting workshop was accompanied by a portrait photography workshop led by photographer Kasia Urbanek. You can see the effects of both workshops below. At the end of the mural and photography event, photographer Teresa Czepiec presented the Light Exhibition – portraits of residents from the Warsaw immigrant community.

The mural photo report was created by Małgorzata Brus. The mural inside the Multicultural Centre was painted by the artist Beata Sosnowska and the following guests: Dilar Yilmaz Elmi, Abdi Gulbarshyn Bozyak and Yan Butenko. The mural on the ramp for people with disabilities outside the Centre was painted by passers-by – the residents and tourists of Warsaw. These activities were supported and supervised by volunteers Ada and Karolina.
Kasia Urbanek created portraits of Warsaw residents, both permanent and short-term ones ;).
The photo report of the Light Exhibition was made by Nastia Chumik. She is also the author of the video report (Leon Film).
